Judges Comments:
For complex fabrication of a turnkey project as a world-class example of expertise in the industry with both the vessel shells and the internal spiral cooling coils having to be separately pressure tested
Crytallisers – Six off, 22 T each, 9m high and 4m in diametre in 304L
Manufactured in 304L, each unit features spiral cooling coils fitted to the dishes and the main body of the vessel, which were all required to be sealed and pressure tested. The final project installation, valued at R13 million, saw finned spiral cooling jackets on all six cylinders requiring 2500m of welding.
These very complex fabrication (total of six identical units) are each 9 meters high and 4 meters in diameter, and each have a weight of 22 tons. The material of manufacture is 304L and the final installation will be in Sasolburg.
There are spiral cooling coils fitted to the dishes and the main body of the vessel, all sealed and pressure tested. It also has six internal cooling coils, again all sealed and pressure tested.
All the cooling coils had to be tacked into place in specific intervals before finally being welded into place.
See process of the fabrication process at different stages to show the complexity of this fabrication. The value of this project was R13 million.
